英國作家 Chesterton 一百多年前的這句說話到了廿一世紀的今天仍然合用。到了今天，仍然有很多人說「世上的宗教相異的是禮儀和形式，他們所宣講的都是一樣」這些錯誤。可惜的是，現在連很多神職、修道人以為所有宗教都一樣，就好像信所有宗教都沒有分別。更愚蠢的是有些天主教的修道人向佛教或 New Age 取經學習祈禱默想，就好像醫生向巫醫請教使用抗生素的用法一樣，然後說所有醫術都一樣。在不否認巫醫青蛙藥的效力時，我認為使用抗生素卻不是他的強項。
Chesterton 接著就藉著比較教會藝術及佛教藝術來點出兩者的不同：
No two ideals could be more opposite than a Christian saint in a Gothic cathedral and a Buddhist saint in a Chinese temple… The Buddhist saint has a sleek and harmonious body, but his eyes are heavy and sealed with sleep. The medieval saint’s body is wasted to its crazy bones, but his eyes are frightfully alive…. The Buddhist is looking with a peculiar intentness inwards. The Christian is staring with a frantic intentness outwards.
當佛教不斷嘗試尋找自己內在的時候，基督信仰卻望眼到外面，不單是自己以外，而是世界以外。佛教的默想是向內的，而基督徒的祈禱是向上的，方向不同。
同時，筆者不認為天主教所宣揚的和平，和伊斯蘭教所宣揚的和平 (if any) 有相同的意義。起碼，教會在宣揚自己的信念時，是在被人侵佔 ﹝最新在台灣的 例子﹞；而伊斯蘭教被別人畫漫畫時就以槍桿子 解決。你說：不是全部伊斯蘭教徒都是這樣。答：對，但有一個用槍桿子解決問題的伊斯蘭國就夠麻煩了。就像筆者相信大部分印度人都不會侵害女性，但如果旅行時遇到一個就夠倒楣；筆者相信大部分中國製電器都不會爆炸著火，但家中有一部就夠燒屋了。
